Mission Accomplished: Week 2 as an Editor
Read a wrap-up on my second week since launching my freelance editing business
First of all, thank you all!! 200 subscribers?? This blog has been growing rapidly this week and I am honored that so many of you enjoy my writing and content, and I am excited to be a part of the reading/writing community we are forming here! Week 2 since my business launch has been amazing!
I started my TikTok account (@malloryday.editing) on 11/24 and it has since grown to 425 followers! I am so excited to reach so many independent authors across the different platforms to engage and hear about everyone’s projects! I am blown away by the amount of talent and creativity out there. My TBR list has exploded with all of the amazing self-published works from indie authors I have come across, so cool! I am also so surprised, and excited, about reaching 200 subscribers here on Substack! I have really enjoyed having an outlet for the new things I learn about writing and editing, meeting authors and hearing your experiences, and having a spot to track my growth! It means a lot that other people seem to be interested in what I have to share.
What I’ve been reading this week:
I am currently ARC reading for two independent authors, Nicole McKeon and Emily Lynn Shephard. Nicole’s book, The Cutthroat King is a “gaslamp fantasy,” and I am loving it so far. It is hitting all the marks for my favorite type of story in this genre so far. I have yet to start Emily’s, A Gamble with Glamour, a YA romance mystery novel, but am looking forward to an enjoyable read this holiday season. Both books are available on Amazon!
I have also read Story Genius by Lisa Cron this week, amazing read! If you want a comprehensive how-to guide for getting started on writing your novel, I highly recommend it!
Down to Business:
This week I have signed two clients for projects in the new year, with several more in the wings! Shoutout to MJ Shavalia for completing her first draft this week!! I cannot WAIT to edit the story. Hannah Burd is deep in self-edits, let’s all send our happy thoughts her way. (Read more about Hannah and her current project in next week’s author spotlight!) I am still accepting new clients and booking for the months of January-April, so if you plan on searching for an editor within that window, please reach out! I would love to work with you!
‘Til next time!
Congrats, Mallory!! Can’t wait to read some of your tips.
Congratulations on growing g so quickly Mallory! 👏 It’s so rewarding to get that validation while in the middle of big changes.
